Wow! What can I say about “Perfect Rage”? I can only say that Ms. Rose keeps giving us magic.
The story between Connor O’Neil and Catalina “Alina” Diaz was a story of heartbreak, hope, and desperation. I felt each emotion flow through every word spoken. Their love was damaged, broken, scattered, and lost. How can you forget the one person whose love makes you whole and alive?
Alina met Connor on base in Afghanistan while being a photographer to capture a story about an orphanage and their children living there. Connor was in charge to taking supplies to the children and got stuck escorting Alina and her reporter friend Jaz. Little did he know was that Alina was trying to flee the attention of Marco’s a Colombian drug lord who was obsessed with her. Her secret would stay with her and not put anyone in danger from the path she was on. But when she and Connor spent more time together, her heart was going down a path she knew she would never experience. The sweet, protective, smart, and handsome Connor was slowly making her way to her heart becoming a love that would be unforgettable.
But when fate comes calling in the form of a phone call that breaks Alina down. She knows that she must leave her heart behind, the real person she is, and bury the truth inside. If Carlos ever found out about Connor he would go to great lengths to destroy and end him. Something she could not let happened, so she will break him and the love they form to protect the one man she would ever love. "He'd hate me. Connor's morals were about loyalty, integrity, and honesty. I just crushed all of those." "One day he'd forget, but he'd never forgive and I had to live with that. I wouldn't forget him. Not ever. Because I was leaving all of me with him. He just didn't know it." No one could have ever imagined the unexpected to see the man they would always love. But Alina found out what consequences she'd have to pay for loving Connor and having Carlos find out. She might have suffered for seven years, but Connor was the one who took the force and became someone she did not know or recognize. He spent the last seven years as a prisoner to be broken. Damaged beyond repair, and become a killer with no remorse. A nobody without a past and without a future. Connor felt betrayed and so much anger when Alina left. The message and lies she left him with when he knew she meant more to him than he ever knew. He just didn't know that he would have to pay the ultimate price. Loving her meant he'd never be the same. Connor could never figure out why they took him. Why they finally tortured him with a weakness he couldn't understand. But all of that didn't matter for much longer when the drugs that they pumped into him were erasing everything he ever knew. Including her. The only thing he knows is the rage he feels running through his veins. Nothing and no one can stop the Demons that make him the Monster. Ms. Rose did an amazing job telling Connor's story and the struggle he went through. The heartbreaking reason as to why he has become the man he is now. How the memories of a past he once knew are slowly breaking and hurting him all at once. And not only did she do his story justice, she didn't loose Alina's character in the mix. It wasn't a one sided story about who was hurt most, but how they both equally bleed. I was so engrossed in the story I could not put it down. I was submerged with Alina and Connor. Their pain, anger, tears, and hope. Everything was revolving within me and it made it for one unforgettable read. I had forgotten how great of a writer Nashoda Rose is. I was happy to reacquaint myself with her work because she did not disappoint. ‼‼ARC graciously provided by the author in exchange for an honest review‼‼
