Out of Love

4 "You're a Good Man" Stars

This was my first read by R.C. Boldt, which made me happy to give her work a try.

In “Out of Love” Noelle Davis is trying to get her life back on track and trying to gain back some stability after leaving her relationship that was a nightmare. With a new city and new job, her life is finally looking promising. She is excited to work for TriShield Protection, a private security consulting firm. It gives her time to focus on herself and rid of the past she is trying so hard to forget and get away from. And the main distraction isn’t all about work. Oh, no. It has to do with her arrogant, smartass, and full alpha male of a boss named Foster Kavanaugh. But, it isn’t anything to do with the attraction—okay, maybe it is, but it’s mostly the unfriendly banter and her promise to keep her life on a no relationship hiatus that is making her concentration and no relationship zone that is keeping her busy.

Foster Kavanaugh could not be any happier with his office manager Noelle. Her hard work is what is keeping his business running smoothly, but he cannot help the attraction that is brewing within him. The only thing is that Foster doesn’t do any sort of a resemblance of a relationship with anyone, let alone an employee. He has too much baggage that he carries with him to be able to do a real relationship, he isn’t the type of man to give any woman a life that involves forever. But he’s still trying to figure out Noelle’s background and her story. Something isn’t adding up with her and he knows there is something more brewing behind the woman than she is letting on. What kind of ex-SEALs would he be if he didn’t notice the little things that make up the big picture? He’s just waiting for his instincts to be right when the time comes.

The story about Noelle and Foster flows smoothly. With Noelle’s past finally catching up to her and being more than she is able to handle on her own, Foster decides to step in and help his employee. There is something fierce about protecting the woman that riles him up, but also makes him feel things he has ever let himself feel with any other woman he’s been with. But the background of Foster and his PTSD he suffers is holding him back from living a life he feels he doesn’t deserve. Punishing himself for the actions he’s committed while in the military are memories that will not let him go. And I felt sadden by the reality of his thoughts and what he was suffering through. Keeping the chance to be loved freely and openly at bay because he feels he is not worthy of such thing.

I loved the banter between the two and the vulnerability that Foster showed, along with the strength that Noelle continued to hold on to. They both complimented one another throughout the story. And the story-line itself kept me reading through because it was enjoyable. The additional characters were a great introduction, since I can see a series coming through with each member we met.

I was happy to take the chance in reading “Out of Love” it was sweet, funny, steamy, and written well. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading military romance, and romance in general.
