To Light The Dragon's Fire (Dragons, Griffons and Centaurs, Oh My! #1)
4.5 Light my "Dragon's Fire" Stars Okay. So I am on a fantasy high right now so please reserve all judgement. Either way, don't care. ;p But seriously, I enjoyed this read by Ms. Taylor. Yes, the title should give you a Big indicator as to what you'll get when diving into this read. And for some amazing reason it worked for me. The amazing, wonderful thing about fantasy, is that anything is possible. Sure, everything might not work and certain stories are possibly over the top, but the author did a great job maintaining the imagination and creativity to an entertaining the story line. The plot and overall flow of the story was tasteful and engaging. Would I continue this story? Absofreakinglutely! I was immersed in the story about a realm containing men who mystical creatures. Lanni and her twin sister Terra Heggan are out rock climbing to get away and clear their minds. Also, a last hurrah for Terra since she is about to wed a man she does not love. She is sacrificing romance, a connection, and love in order to help her family and their company from going under. Knowing that her life and the adventures she takes pleasure in will be over soon and the role of dutiful wife will begin. Losing her true self and turn into what is expected of her. But when they stumble upon a cave on top of the mountain they climbed and decide to explore, Terra and Lanni soon find themselves fallen further into the cave. Falling straight into a den of a creature they could not make out in the dark. They both plan their escape, but it seems like the creature has other plans and refuses to let a guarded secret be ruined by these stumbling humans. The creature turns out to be an older dragon and decides to take them into the city of Bra'ka from the five kingdoms. There Terra meets Draven Taraxus king of Bra'ka. Terra and her sister are trying to wrap their heads around the situation they have landed on, but Terra and her emotions come to a stop when she looks at the Draven for the first time. "The two words rumbled over her in a wave of heat the likes of which she's never felt before. It started in the pit of her stomach, similar to an oven on low, and then built quickly, spreading through her body in a blaze of wildfire she couldn't have stopped if she tried." And she quickly caught notice of something odd occurring to the man in front of her. Seems like whatever pull she felt, something similar was passing through him as well, but she wasn't quite sure.
"Something flashed through them, lightening the irises to the color of a setting sun. The man's chest expanded, his nostrils flared, and the color shifted back to a bright red then settled back to the original, glowing orange." Terra and Lanni both go through an unknown journey that they both never expected. Taking in the new world around them and learning that in this world, magic is like nothing they have ever experienced or seen. Along with the bond that they share as sisters is something that Draven's enemies are willing to go to great lengths to capture. I was caught up in the story that was created. The plot and characters well written without making the scenarios so far fetched. Yes, there also is romance in the story, but the anticipation that transpires between Terra and Draven makes the imagination and feelings run wild while reading the story. And the adventure that everyone is involved in kept me wanting to continue to the end. And it is not only a story about only Draven and Terra, but also of Lanni and Arin. Though their story is just beginning, I feel like their story is going to grow into something worth waiting for. Overall, my fantasy track has been going surprisingly well, and Margaret Taylor was by far a wonderful chance I am glad I took. It certainly won't be the last read from this author for me. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fantasy reading who wants something quick, fun, and with romance mixed into the pot. Something that is light and unconventional.
